summer giveaway

by Tara on June 22, 2011

Feelin’ hot, hot, hot.  I’m hot.  Your hot.  He’s hot.  She’s hot.  We’re all hot.  Sometimes after a long day of play, or on those odd rainy days, there’s nothing like a family 1000 piece puzzle or a closet full of board games to help pass the time.  Often times it’s the Ipods and Gameboys that come out to keep kids entertained, but here at the squid, we love a great game that young and old alike can enjoy.  In the store, this game is an instant draw.  Yesterday a seven year old and I went head to head.  I won’t say who won, but I will say she left with an awfully big grin.

Every now and then we have some fun on Facebook with a contest, but I thought it would be fun to have a Summer Giveaway too.  So I am giving away a Memory Match Game.

I have carried this line for sometime now, and it is one of my all time favorites.  Many mention that it is quite Montessori.  I just love that all of their toys are designed to encourage imaginative play and built to last from one sibling to the next.

To win this Memory Match you must leave me a comment telling me which games you remember playing with your siblings, cousins or parents.  For me it was Stratego and Othello.  I was always begging my brother or Aunt Moe to play a game with me.  I miss those simple days!

The summer giveaway winner will be announced on July 31.  Until then, stay cool!

We played spoons and spit all the time. I was the youngest by 6 and 8 years, so I always lost. My brother and sister also made me play 52 pick-up.. Good times picking up the deck of cards scattered across the living room.. But I still loved it.

I remember playing lots of card games, checkers, Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Parcheesi and Sorry. My dad really likes Trivial Pursuit and occasionally still pulls out just the question cards and asks random ones.

For us it was Candyland and the Uncle Wiggly game–and yes, it wasn’t yesterday.

My brother and I played countless games of Hi Ho Cherry O and Memory, and then, when we were older, had a bunch of travel-sized games (Connect 4, Battleship, Boggle – it was a great way to keep us occupied during long car trips/family vacations)

Lots of great memories are brought to mind by the game “Pollyanna”, which we played with our grandmother! Seems as if the game was very similar to “Trouble”, but with a girl twist!

Thinking about playing Rummy with my Grampa and riding my bike to the neighbors to play Chinese Checkers brings a smile at the memory.
